Meredith McLean

1. What is your role as a team member at Vitality Fitness?
part of the awesome Admin team!

2. What inspired you to join the Vitality Fitness team?
I had a co-worker who told me about the Groupon for Vitality and herded me to try it out (friends don’t let friends sweat alone!).  I had worked out before and was in great shape a few years back but like many people, fitness levels ebb and flow and I was not at my best. I figured this would be a good opportunity to kick start my motivation, try something new as I have not been a group exercise kinda gal, preferring to do my own thing at the gym.

About 2 weeks in…….I realized I wouldn’t follow through on my own going to the gym and decided to sign up as it was enjoyable and different.  I liked the trainers right away and saw the value with the form correction (I wasn’t doing a deadlift properly all this time??? who knew!!)  as well as the accountability, it offers.  And… the rest is history! A few months later…. the stars aligned and the admin role came open and I thought…I like this place…. I can do that! And the rest is history.  Vitality is part of my life that isn’t a sacrifice or “task” to show up for whether it’s my own personal time working out or working there and getting to know the many, many amazing people that make it what it is.

3. What is your favorite form of exercise/physical activity?
I really enjoy the Obstacle course races-its mentally and physically challenging, but you can’t prepare for these without the strength training.  Oddly…I do enjoy push ups…. going from my knees and not being able to do 5 to be able to do almost 3 sets of 15 on hands and feet feels like a major accomplishment!  And with proper form. I love racket sports as well (squash, tennis and even ping pong or table tennis too!)

4. It’s a Saturday night, you’ve eaten healthy all week and it’s time to have a cheat meal. What do you choose?
So many things…. wine, beer, cheese, bread, dark, DARK chocolate, throw some nuts in there too, CARAMEL for sure!  Lately….a good burger and fries!  Dim Sum is great too.

5. What is the one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
Hmmm…not much. I am pretty open. I do enjoy down time and quiet time to just be despite being an energetic person.

6.  What is the best advice/words of wisdom you have ever received?
Be brave! Evolve yourself, not others. When you let your light shine, it is an invitation for others to do the same and brighten any place.

1. What is your role as a team member at Vitality Fitness?
I have been a trainer at Vitality Fitness since 2012

2. What inspired you to join the Vitality Fitness team?
Dave MacDonald – owner and head trainer:) In 2011, I walked into the gym, not knowing what to expect, intimidated by the strength of some of the members and wondering if I would fit in. After my second class, I became a member and by the end of the year, I was interning to become a trainer. I was inspired by Dave’s passion for fitness and for wanting to make a difference in the lives of each person who walked through the door. Dave is a motivator, a teacher, a coach, has a hunger for personal and professional growth, understands his client group and is open to feedback to make Vitality Fitness the best experience for all. I am very proud and honored to be part of Dave’s team. Dave has created a team of enthusiastic, skilled and fun individuals who value and respect one another and work together to support clients in achieving their health and fitness goals.

Mia Dwyer

1. What is your role as a team member at Vitality Fitness?
Personal Trainer.

2. What inspired you to join the Vitality Fitness team?
I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia over 2 years ago. I was very sick and couldn’t do more than walk for a very long time. Coming from a very physically, active lifestyle, it was devastating to me that I could barely move (I went from 60 to 0). I couldn’t even do a push-up anymore . I started going to a naturopath and changed my eating. A coworker suggested that I try her boot camp, I called David to speak to him about my disorder and if they could accommodate to my personal needs. He was very informative and respectful. I went to my very first 50-day challenge! Jason was so much fun, mindful of my physical pain and let me go to where I was comfortable. On the end of my 50-day challenge, I didn’t lose weight but my strength gains were incredible! And that is exactly what I was looking for! I was able to squat again and my push-ups were from my toes and started running again! This was inspiring for a former Personal Trainer, a former runner and exercise freak! Vitality’s community and emphasis on having a safe and fun time made me want to teach again! So, here I am after taking a long, long time off, I am back to what I Love! Training with a great team and the best clients! Blessed!

3. What is your favorite form of exercise/physical activity?
My favorite exercise is push-ups! LOVE them! Best goal setting exercise ever!
Physical activity – running and my newest passion, hiking!

4. It’s a Saturday night, you’ve eaten healthy all week and it’s time to have a cheat meal. What do you choose?
Hands down, chips or popcorn. I know not a meal, but I can make it one!

5. What is the one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
Well, people that know me know I am an open book! I will talk to a wall if it would talk back! But believe it or not, I was extremely shy! I know, hard to believe!

6. What is the best advice/words of wisdom you have ever received?
They are from my Mom who is amazing!
“There is always a golden nugget somewhere.” The nugget could be a word, hug, advice, a picture, someone you meet that will inspire/love you, we all have nuggets to receive and give. So, I take that to heart and try to see those wonderful, little nuggets that are given to each of us every day.

Andrea Habermeyer

1. What is your role as a team member at Vitality Fitness?
Part time trainer

2. What inspired you to join the Vitality Fitness team?
I loved Vitality from the moment I had my first workout with Dave in the old building with no parking anywhere. His personality and approach to training meshed perfectly with mine (even if I didn’t love how much he pushed me and how sore I was initially). A few years later, Dave messaged me and said he thought I’d be a good trainer, and asked if I was interested in joining the internship program. I didn’t even hesitate and said yes immediately. When I told my friends at Vitality that I was training to be a trainer, the response that stands out most vividly was “good. That’s perfect for you. You already tell us all what to do anyway.” And with that, a legend was born.

3. What is your favorite form of exercise/physical activity?
I’m supposed to say Bootcamp, right?

4. It’s a Saturday night, you’ve eaten healthy all week and it’s time to have a cheat meal. What do you choose?
Pizza. Homemade with dough from Lina’s Italian market, organic cured meats, and allllll the cheese. All of it. With wine.

5. What is the one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
I’m not a born & raised Canadian – I’m an immigrant from South East Asia.

6.  What is the best advice/words of wisdom you have ever received?
To Have Courage, and Be Kind. Ok, that was Cinderella’s mom.
I’ve been blessed to have had some incredible role models in my life, so narrowing it down to just one piece of advice is essentially impossible. One that comes to mind though, is that it’s really important to be true to yourself and to trust your instincts. You know what’s best for you, and you have instincts for a reason. Listen to those things and help yourself go and grow where you need to. Take the time for self-care and self-reflection and listen to yourself. And your trainer. Always listen to your trainer.

6.  What is the best advice/words of wisdom you have ever received?
“On your own, you go faster. Together, we go further.”
