No matter what time of year it is, getting yourself a good night’s rest, waking up early, and enjoying a balanced breakfast are always important when it comes to your health and fitness. However, during the holidays it can be a bit more tempting to stay up late, sleep in, skip breakfast, and generally fall out of your usual rhythm. This is especially true if you typically exercise in the morning, which is a habit you should always try to keep in tact. Meeting up with family and other activities (especially if you’re travelling) can find ways to disrupt a morning routine, but it’s key to avoid letting go completely. Your self-discipline will pay off!

Stay In Balance

Two things probably stand out the most when you think about the holidays: exchanging gifts and eating food. The former may not have a significant effect on your fitness (unless someone has given you a gift card for Netflix or a local dessert shop), but with those large gatherings and feasts, it’s easy to fall into a trap of big portions and low levels of physical activity.  It’s key to balance these temptations with good strategy. Eat a small number of your most favourite items rather than letting loose and piling your plate up. Don’t forget to plan outdoor activities with friends and family to counteract all that time in front of the TV!

Keep Stress in Check

Despite all of the joyful spirit and fun activities that come with the holidays, things can get a bit stressful. This may be hard to admit, but it’s also probably difficult to remember a holiday season when you weren’t overloaded with all kinds of responsibilities. From shopping in chaotic malls to hosting a large group of friends and family for dinner to everything in between, there’s a lot to deal with.
